December 10th - 11th *Clear Brook Holiday Debate Tournament*


For our last debate tournament of 2010, Channelview Debate traveled to Friendswood, TX to compete in the Clear Brook Holiday Tournament. We had a lot of breaks into Semi Finals including Amanda Hernandez in Impromptu, Domestic Extemp, and Poetry. Jordan Settles in Impromptu. Summer Stanforth in Domestic Extemp, Impromptu, and Prose. Alex Tran in Original Oratory, Impromptu, and Domestic Extemp. Rachel Clark in Novice Extemp. Two Novice Debate teams advanced to Semi-Finals in Novice CX: the team of Rachel Clark and Alexis Holland and the team of Travis Blackwood and Trevor Blackwood.

Overall Alexis Holland placed 2nd in Novice Extemp, Summer Stanforth placed 6th in Impromptu, & Alex Tran placed 5th in Domestic Extemp.

November 20th *Debate teams up with Houston Food Bank*




This Thanksgiving, Channelview Debate decided to give back to the community. Several members of the Novice and Varsity Debate Team volunteered their time at the Houston Food Bank bagging up food for families in need.

November 6th *Westfield UIL Tournament*

Time for our first UIL Tournament of the year! Novice and Varsity teams competed in this one day tournament (a rarity for debate!). WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHED TEAM THIS IS!

Amanda Hernandez (team President) walked away with 2nd overall in Poetry Interpretation, 2nd in Informative Speaking, 2nd in Impromptu, and 1st in Duet Improv. with partner Summer Stanforth.

Summer Stanforth (team Secretary) won 1st place in impromptu speaking, 1st place in Duet Improv. with partner Amanda Hernandez, and 3rd place in Informative Speaking.

Nik Morgan won 3rd place in Persuasive Speaking and 5th Place in Impromptu.

The NOVICE CX team of Alexis Holland and Rachel Clark made it to Semi-Finals in CX-Debate.

It was a very successful tournament, and an awesome way to start off the 2010/2011 UIL Season!

This year, Falcon Debate participated in the Annual Channelview Fall Festival. The festival was held inside Channelview High School and is open to the public. There are games, concessions, prizes, and even live music! The Falcon Debate team hosted ZOMBIE WARZ, a game where contestants had to knock over hand-painted zombie heads with bean bags. The game brought a huge crowd and the team had a blast participating! Make sure to stop by next year and check out what we have in store!

October 22nd-23rd *Bellaire 55th Annual Debate Tournament*

I am proud to announce a very successful weekend in Falcon Debate. The Bellaire Forensic Tournament is a highly competitive tournament; a must-go-to for any debate team. This year the Falcon Debate team made a good name for themselves. The Varsity Debate Team continuously showed their talents and determination in each and every round. Congratulations to Jordan Settles for 2nd place in Poetry Interp & OctoFinals in LD Debate, Amanda Hernandez for Semi-Finals in poetry & Semi-Finals in Impromptu! Summer Stanforth walked away with 6th place in Domestic Extemp (out of over 70 entries!) and Alex Tran for 8th place in Domestic Extemp & Semi-Finals in Impromptu Speaking! Ulysses Soto for Semi-Finals in Original Oratory! The Novice Debate Team, as usual, did well also. The team of Travis & Trevor Blackwood went undefeated in their 4 Preliminary rounds of Novice CX-Debate, making it to Semi-Finals. Freshmen, Alexis Holland and Rachel Clark also made it to Semi-Finals in Novice CX-Debate. You should be proud of your Channelview Debate team and please make sure to congratulate any and all of them you see in the halls. Our next tournament is on November 6th at Westfield High School UIL Competition.

September 24th- 25th *Clear Creek Tournament*

Once again, Channelview Falcon Debate has shown its surreal talent at the Clear Creek Debate Tournament this weekend. All members in attendance did extremely well! Freshman Travis Blackwood walked away with a 6th place Award in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking (out of 37 contestants!). Senior (and team Secretary) Summer Stanforth earned a 4th Place Award in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. Well done to both of them! Non-Advancing members included Amanda Hernandez (Team President) who advanced to Semi Finals in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and Impromptu. Novice Policy Debate team of Trevor Blackwood and Sarah Johnson advanced to Quarter-Finals, and Novice Members Alexis Holland, Treston Smith, & Treivion Sheppard advanced to Semi-Finals in Novice Extemp speaking.

September 21st *Kashmere Novice Debate Tournament*

On Tuesday, September 21st, Falcon Debate travelled to Kashmere High School for a novice debate tournament. In cross-examination debate, the team of Rachel Clark & Alexis Holland took second place and the team of Idalys Bradford and Vanessa Zavala finished 4th. In extemporaneous Speaking, brothers Travis and Trevor Blackwood took 1st and 2nd respectively. That six top four finishes in two tournaments for our 1st year debaters. T

September 10th-11th *Bellaire Novice Extravaganza*

Over the weekend Falcon Debate competed in the Bellaire HS Novice Extravaganza. This tournament is designed for first year debaters only. This year we exceeded all expectations. The CX team of Alexis Holland and Rachel Clark beat out all competition to take 1st place in CX Debate. The team of Mavis Escalante and Sarah Johnson finished a close 2nd in CX debate. The best Falcon Debate had previously finished in five year of competing at this tournament was third. All members of Falcon Debate did well. Other competitors included Travis & Trevor Blackwood, Idalys Bradford, Joseph Gutierrez, Treivion Sheppard, and Treston Smith. Please congratulate all members for a successful beginning to the 2010 debate season.

For a week we learned cases, vocabulary, and speed & speaking drills! Debate Camp is a week long and is provided free of charge every year to interested incoming Debaters.
